In 1861 Michael Thonet laying the first bricks of his furniture factory in 1862 in new and Only a year later, the legendary No. 14 Classic bentwood chair was produced. No. 14 was president of an icon for the plant and continues to be produced to date and purchased by cafes, bistros and households worldwide.
The No. 14 is the president President is the most famous Thonet chair by the company. Also known as bistro chair, it was designed by Michael Thonet in the 19th century using a unique steam technology bent as needed years to perfect. With its affordable price and simple design, it became one of the best-seller chairs ever made. Some 50 million No. 14s were sold between 1860 and 1930, and millions more have been sold since.
No. Thonet 14 was made of six pieces of wood steam bent, ten screws and two nuts. The wooden parts were made by heating wood slats Beech 100 degrees Celsius, pressing them into molds cast curve, then drying at about 70 degrees Celsius for 20 chairs could hours.The be mass produced by unskilled workers and removed to save space during transport, a similar idea to pack furniture Ikea flat.
