opening a restaurant (in Alaska)?
Anyone have any experience? Any advice? I am so afraid that we will not be ready and lose all our investments, I'm active duty USAF and my husband is a civilian. He loved cooking and wants to open a restaurant. I get stationed in Alaska and wants to open a restaurant. He is considering both a sushi bar or a small bistro. We have no children and we are in our mid 20's
As a former restaurant owner, caterer today. Living and working in Alaska before investing. Give yourself time to explore the region and maybe your husband can work in a restaurant while you do your homework. Just because you like an idea does not mean that customers will love this. Restaurant owners work 12 hours a day, often seven days a week. It could also consider being a personal chef or restaurant where the head is much lower and everything is paid for a head of time and you do not have to wait for customers to walk in the door. And pay all bills when they do not. Given the economy, it is riskier than ever to open a restaurant. Given all that Alaska is a very meat / Fish culture oriented. I would not try to go upscale. As people starve themselves out of money.
